Looking for a Summer Read? Here are Three Great Ones!

Summer is a great time to be as active as you can, but it is also a great opportunity for self-improvement. It is also a time to just relax with a book poolside. Below are three books I think you’ll enjoy and that I think you might be able to take something away from.

Good to Great by Jim Collins

This has become a classic for leaders in all areas and at all levels. Whether you are a CEO or an 8 to 5 work horse, this book has information on how to be a transformative leader. The author and a team of researchers organized a group of “good to great” companies and a group “comparison companies” in order to determine what separates the truly elite from the group. I found it to be a fascinating read and use many of the principles in my own endeavors.

Start With Why by Simon Sinek

Be inspired by the work you do. It can be difficult in our lives to explain why we do what we do. It easier to explain what we do, or how we do it, but why is the thing that inspires us all to be great leaders and inspire those around us. It’s an interesting read and the author can be seen on TED.com and the world over.

You didn’t think I just read leadership books all day did you? Believe it or not, I also read other things…maybe not as transformative as the two above or maybe the below is one of the best all time.

The Calvin and Hobbes Collection by Bill Watterson

I used to read these books all day long as a kid at my aunt’s house. Still some of the best insight and wisdom of anything I’ve read. It’s a good read for you or the kids.

Take some time this summer to relax, whether its outdoors poolside or at a picnic table, relax and read something you find enjoyable. You owe it to yourself.
